Social-cognitive approaches to understanding criminal behaviour also focus on the way that offenders tend to perceive their social world and how this might influence the development of criminal behaviour. Some offenders may also suffer from specific mental disorders that may make them more likely to commit crime, although as we shall see in Chapter 3 the relationship between mental disorder and crime is a complex one.
